Planning a trip to Tasmania? Perhaps you have an early flight back to the mainland or don’t want to rush to start your day. Whatever your reason, a night at a hotel near Hobart International Airport is a great way to be within close distance to Hobart city and everything the city has to offer.
Located just 17km from the centre of Hobart, Hobart Airport is the largest of two airports that serve Tasmania; the other being Launceston in the islands north.
There have been no international flights to- or from Tasmania since 1996, and most travellers to/from Tasmania go via. Melbourne International Airport. but there is a strong indication that airlines may resume international flights to Hobart from New Zealand as early as 2021.

What you need to know about Hobart Airport
Five things to make your visit to Tasmania easier:
- Hobart Airport is a tiny single level building! Check-in is in the middle of the building with departures down one end and arriavls down the other. There are very few facilities in the airport. There’s a cafe in the arrivals area, a couple of food shops and vending machines past security, and only basic facilities. That said, it is a very comfortable airport, just not one I’d want to spend a long time in!
- There is free public WiFi throughout Hobart Airport.
- There is no luggage lockers or bag storage services at Hobart Airport.
- SkyBus provides fast and low cost airport transfers every 30 minutes daily – 7 days a week, all year round – between Hobart Airport and Hobart City Centre. Tickets are best purchased online through the SkyBus website to get the best price, but you can also purchase them with the driver.

Are there pay-per-use lounges at Hobart Airport?
At the time of writing, the only lounge at Hobart Airport is the Qantas Club. This allows those flying on a QF-numbered flight who hold a Business Class ticket. Qantas Gold or higher status, or oneworld Sapphire or above status to comfortably relax in the lounge.
To be honest, the lounge is rather small and I did not enjoy spending time there. Instead, head in and grab a snack or drink, and then enjoy the elegantly designed public waiting area which is much more spacious. AV Geeks will love that both the lounge and public waiting area has views of the tarmac!

There are no public showers at Hobart Airport, and I did not see any in the Qantas Lounge during my brief visit.
